Fondo Paez

The department of Cauca, Colombia is a region characterized by the rural population of indigenous peoples and is home to the Asociación Kwe'sx Uma Kiwe Peykajn Mjinxisa - Fondo Paez, a cooperative of coffee farmers. Historically, Cauca has been a region affected by colonialism and socioeconomic exploitation, but productive and communitarian projects like Fondo Paez are making a difference and slowly improving the standard of living for many.

Fondo Paez is an opportunity for indigenous people to economically develop from coffee production and business. They are recognized for their high-quality coffee and are currently working on seed conservation and food security initiatives. About 75 percent of Fondo Paez families are certified organic and many more are in transition.

Quotable

Fair Trade has been very important To my small organization. It has given us recognition in the supply chain without losing our identity, and a higher market value. At the individual level, it has helped us share our story with the consumers who purchase and enjoy our coffee.
