Finca Las Delicias

Located on the Atlantic coast of the Urabá banana-growing region of Colombia, Finca Las Delicias has been a family-owned estate since 1986. The Gonzalez family has farmed this land since the 1960’s and is proud to declare that more than 30 percent of workers have been with the company for more than 10 years. This single estate became Fair Trade Certified™ in 2008 in order to obtain community development funds to improve the quality of life of its workers. Workers are guaranteed fair labor contracts and democratic and transparent management of the Fair Trade premiums.

Programs

Education Programs

Las Delicias’ Joint Body continues to allocate its Fair Trade premium funds at the beginning of each school cycle to award scholarships to workers and their families. Las Delicias workers are encouraged to seek technical degrees and start small businesses from home.

A New Drainage System

Finca Las Delicias increased production by 15 percent after installing a new drainage system with funding from Fair Trade premiums.

Housing Programs

Fair Trade premiums continue to fund low-interest home construction loans for Las Delicias workers. Since the program's inception, 35 workers have achieved their dream of owning a dignified home to raise their families and more continue to benefit.
