Description:
Citrusdal Bergendal is situated in Citrusdal amongst the lush green citrus orchards of the Western Cape of South Africa. It is comprised of Bergendal Boerdery, Bergendal Rooibos, Manenberg Property which owns the Maanskloof farm, and a fruit packinghouse. Set in the Cedarburg Mountains, this region is among the most fertile botanical zones in the world and the only zone where Rooibos, for herbal tea, is grown. Citrusdal Bergendal uses 100 percent organic methods in order to preserve this pristine environment.
Since 2004, Citrusdal Bergendal has been Fair Trade certified for wine, oranges, clementines, mandarins and mineolas, in addition to Rooibos tea. They also grow deciduous fruit, raise sheep and grow bucha, another herbal plant. The farm’s Joint Body recognizes the importance of training its workers and dedicates much of its resources to make workshops an integral part of their professional and social development. They regularly contract training organizations to offer several sessions throughout the year on topics including financial management, conflict resolution, food hygiene and health issues such as HIV/AIDS and STD awareness and prevention.
