It seems that with today’s increasing demand for environmentally friendly products, the shelves are full with “eco-products” and “green” versions of old favorites. But how do we know we’re getting what we bargain for?
A recent study
of records from the Federal Trade Commission-- the agency charged with enforcing environmental standards for green products -- showed that over the last decade only 3 companies have been prosecuted for making false environmental claims, even though the amount of products making such claims have gone up five fold. So-called cases of “green fraud” haven’t been investigated, which has been attributed to the agency’s lack of resources.
Now, more than ever, consumers need a reliable source of information to ensure the ethically sourced and environmentally friendly products they purchase are just that.
